Hostess Blog - November 2008
This idea came about when a great friend of mine Cindy Ng of Origami Bijou told me her first book on origami which just came out! Since we both started our business with limited budgets, Cindy and I discovered we are quite resourceful, very creative and produce results when we have our thrifty-thinking-hats on. Despite some people thinking we are “cheap”, I insist that we are able to make beautiful things out of nothing, learn something valuable and have oodles fun!
This is when Cindy’s origami book comes in handy, with 20 origami models and 96 pages of origami paper, you’ll be the host to the most creative and entertaining party! Girligami is packed with the coolest ideas for both adults and kids. Ask her why she has all these crazy ideas, she will tell you it’s because when she can’t afford a pair of Manolo, she just imagines she can fold one of her own instead!
Girligami is now available in stores (as of the end of October). If you love this look and have a jewelry budget, Cindy also produces the most adorable HANDMADE gold and silver origami earrings and necklaces.

It's 8.8.08, an incredibly fortuitous day in Chinese numerology, the start of the Olympics in Beijing and surely a day where many weddings will be taking place all over the world. I thought it a good idea to spread that good fortune around to this blog a little by featuring a traditional symbol of luck: origami! Origami actually started in China as Chinese paper folding and was later introduced to Japan where it became what we know as origami today. The origami I'm talking about though is not the precious paper trinket kind (although I love those...) This origami is strong enough to last through the ages, chic enough to wear everyday yet just as precious (and hopefully as lucky!) as its paper predecessor: Origami Bijou. Origami Bijou features jewelry that's made using the traditional paper folding technique, but instead uses sheets of fine silver and 24K gold. The results are stylish and delicate, sure to start some conversations, and will last for many years to come! Head over to Origami Bijou to check out all the amazing designs, and find your perfect good luck charm. Happy 8.8.08!

Fint runt halsen: Tjusiga silversmycken av Cindy Ng

Wow.

All this little origami items look pretty cool, but there are two major problems with it. Being made of paper it is not very durable and you have to know how to fold it properly. It is fine for those with the patience, for the rest of us we can just get these Origami Necklaces. Each one is hand folded from a single sheet of silver so that these really are true origami pieces.

Among the first products in the designer’s new jewelry line, Origami Bijou is born of thin sheets of silver, expertly manipulated into aviary elegance.

The elegant, intricate art of origami now comes in necklace form. Designer Cindy Ng of Finger Magic combines ancient origami designs with modern pearls to create delicate yet durable jewelry. Each design conveys a distinct, powerful meaning; the Peace Crane represents good fortune and longevity, for example, and is handmade using a fine sheet of silver with folding properties.

Oakland Magazine - September 2007
The art of folding 2-D sheets of paper into 3-D shapes has helped Cindy Ng refine her thinking, given her confidence and presented her with a viable business niche. “People can become intimidated when they hear the name ‘origami’,” she has noticed. But follow the instructions on the kits she creates, or invite her to give a demo at a kid’s party, and origami becomes something even a klutz can do.

I used to love making tiny origami - it kind of blows my mind that over at finger magic they are actually folding these out of mini sheets of silver!

Obsession. While it usually makes you think of coming home to find your bunny in a pressure cooker, it can be a good thing. Case in point? Cindy Ng. The Hayward, California, designer took her love for origami one step further and created a collection of folded silver jewelry called Origami Bijou (we also like the name a lot).
